First Church of God

1972-present

Stanton First Church of God was established in 1972 when a group of people from Powell County met at the Camargo Church of God with RHE Board Members from Anderson, Indiana.  After the August 19, 1972 meeting they contacted Jerry Owens from Winchester, who agreed to come and help them get the Church started.

The first services were held in the Big Oaks Building on College Avenue, across from the Drive-In Theatre.  After a short time the Church moved to the D.A.V. Building on Bright Street, behind the Old Post Office, where the Church remained until moving to the present location.

Brother Eugene Warren was the first Pastor, voted in on October 25, 1972.  The first Church Board was Russell Ware, Dennie Faulkner, Faye Hampton, Danny Martin, and Hazel Walters.

Dedication of the new building was held on November 5, 1972.  Brother Warren was the Pastor until January 1973.  The next Pastor was Eugene Lanham, who came in August 1973.  In January 1975 Bill Patrick was selected as the Assistant Pastor to Brother Lanham.  When Brother Lanham left in February 1976, Bill Patrick assumed the role as Pastor until January 1979.  Max Molihan was Pastor of the congregation from February 1979 through February 1987.  James H. Combs was Pastor from December 1987 until October 1995.  Interim Pastor following Brother Combs was Brother James W. Clark.  Brother Elder Goble served as Pastor from June 1996 through September 5, 2004.  Brother Walter Strong served as Interim Pastor from October 17, 2004 until January 23, 2005.  On January 24, 2005 our present Pastor, Anthony Molihan, and his family moved into the Parsonage.  the next chapter in the vibrant history of the Stanton First Church of God is now under construction, and you are invited to be part of the history of the Stanton First Church of God.
