Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; January 14, 2007

Preparing for an exam is hard work.  It's time consuming and, at times, absolutely overwhelming.  Still, after all the late hours and constant review, the payoff can be sweet.  It's funny how you tend to forget the hard work when the test comes back with a good grade at the top.  All of sudden, the result was worth the hard work.

The same is true when the body of Christ decides not to divide.  Keeping the unity of the church can be hard work.  Sometimes, it can seem absolutely impossible.  Still, the payoff can be so sweet!

Armies prepare for battle by thinking through strategy, organizing the troops, and pulling together their resources.  As Christians, we need to prepare for spiritual and emotional battles by studying the Word with fellow believers and by praying for each other.  Then, when we have the chance to divide, we'll be able to decide on unity instead.

I challenge each of you to examine your relationships at church this week.  Identify some potential divisions and make a commitment to promote unity in the church.  We should never take for granted the strong unity of the Stanton First Church of God.  Like a baby, unity is a very delicate thing that needs to be handled carefully.

Here is a sample prayer that could be beneficial:  Lord, prepare me to face conflict positively when it comes my way.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
