Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; November 19, 2006

God has created us all to be different. He's wired us in such a way that, despite our similarities, each person is motivated by different interests and passions in life.

For some it may be exercise and a healthy lifestyle. For others it may be art, such as painting or drawing. For someone else, it may be reading or writing. As for me I can find great escape and relaxation in a game of golf but Bro. David Baker shared with me that running the Drive-In is his hobby, different strokes for different folks. Whatever your interest might be, you own a personal passion for something.

Abraham had a passion - his relationship with God. He was totally committed to his Creator and Lord. As we look at Abraham's faith being tested in Genesis 22, we see how his faith never swayed. When we see it again in Hebrews 11, we find out why. Abraham trusted God so much that he decided that if he did have to sacrifice his son, God would raise him from the dead. The important thing was to remain obedient to God.

I have to admit that I haven't always stood strong in times of testing. My frustration and personal fears have prevented me from totally seeing God at work. I can look back now and see that God's hand was in those situations all the time; but at that moment, it felt like a dark and lonely place.

What kind of challenge are you facing? You won't be able to survive it on your own. You need God's strength and provision. He can help you overcome. He can provide the passion you need to bring your Christian walk back to life. Stay obedient to God, and allow Him to walk you through it and develop your character and faith.

It will do us all good from time to time to look back at our past and see the hand of God working in the troubled times of our life. It can surely bring us hope in the struggles of our future. The victories of our past can encourage us for the future.
