Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; October 15, 2006

As I sit at my computer and write this note, it is Friday October 13th, 2006. Holly, Caeden and Chase have gone shopping and Evan and I are eagerly anticipating the hour to arrive so that we can leave for Rupp Arena and watch Midnight Madness, UK’s 1st Basketball practice of the year. John and Connie had the tickets and could not attend and asked if I would like to take them off their hands and being the nice guy that I am I obliged. But seriously, thanks John and Connie, you are sure a blessing.

When I received the tickets I couldn’t think of anyone that I would rather share them with other than Evan. I have a very special bond with all of my boys that just they and daddy share. With Evan it is baseball and basketball, Caeden loves to go with daddy to ride the golf cart and both of them jump at the chance to eat Chinese Buffet with dad whenever the opportunity arrives. And I am sure as time passes and Chase grows up, he and I will also have things that we can share that will probably in the end mean more to me than they ever will mean to them. I just hope when they are older and I am gone they will look back on these things with fond memories of our relationship together. But tonight it is me, Evan and the Cats. I think I am more excited about sharing this big event with my son than I am about seeing the Cats; this is going to be a night we will never forget.

As I said before, I couldn’t think of anyone else I would rather have with me than Evan and I had the tickets and it would be a shame not to take him. But do we feel that way about our relationship with God? I hear many people talk about sharing important moments with their family and their children, taking them to this once in a lifetime event after another one but we rarely see the whole family together in the House of God. Don’t get me wrong, I will never forget Mom, Dad and myself going to Johnny Bench Day when I was a kid.

A vacation we took to North Carolina has lingered in my mind for years now. But the time that we have spent together in God’s house worshipping our  Lord and Savior has been the most beneficial trip of them all. For it was there that they showed me how to get to Calvary and it is there that my life was changed. Thanks Mom and Dad for the ride. You see, the cross is the most important thing that I could offer my children, more important than education, more important than trivial events or family outings, for it is the cross that makes the difference and will have the lasting effect upon their lives. I just hope when my 3 Sons are older that they can look back on their past and thank me for showing them the way to Calvary, for because of Calvary I have tickets to heaven and it would be a shame not to take my boys.

In my prayers - Pastor Anthony
