Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; July 16, 2006

Hello, I pray that this day finds you happy in the Lord and in the center of God’s will.

This past week Holly and I took a couple of days off and went to do a little shopping. Before we knew it we were in the heart and soul of Charleston, West Virginia. As we cruised around that big city trying to get comfortable with where we were at, we uncovered a vital piece of information; people in Charleston cannot drive. As we were setting at one red light the car next to us just came to a rolling stop, took a look both ways and went right on through. I thought to myself, there is one in every crowd. Then the very next red light there was a car that made a left turn at that light. But yet again, at a third light another car just shot through the red light as if there was no law against it at all. I began to question if this State had a different set of rules than Kentucky did. Needless to say, I was very careful at red lights for the rest of our trip, because you never knew who was going by what rules.

This little incident got me to thinking about what type of world we would live in if no one followed the rules. What if everyone just did as they pleased, made up their own rules as they went along not even bothering to tell others around them about the rule change.

What about the Church, what kind of Church would we have if everyone just went by their own rules? How effective would we be if we just disregarded the Bible and wrote our own rulebook? Just as those drivers were putting my family’s life at risk, so would this type of action be putting the Church at risk.

I believe that the Church of today is at-risk because we have allowed too many people to make up their own rules so to speak. My friend there is only one way to tithe, (a full tenth of what God has blessed you with), there is only one way to be a member of God’s Church (through salvation), there is only one type of commitment to God, (Whole-heartedly). My list could go on and on.

Sooner or later their total disrespect for traffic laws will catch up to them. And someone’s total disregard for God’s word will surely do the same.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
