Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; April 16, 2006

Luke 24:5-6

Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen:

That is the words that were uttered from the mouth of one of the Angels that were present at the tomb that was the temporary holding place for Jesus, when Mary and a few of her friends had come on that marvelous resurrection morning to put the finishing touches on our saviors burial.  How those 15 words must have transformed a very sad and depressing day into one that was full of rejoicing and praise. To put the words of the Angel in a nut shell, he was informing the women that they had come to a place of death to look for life, they had come to a place full of bones of the past in search of their future. The Angel goes on and asks them if they didn't remember how Jesus promised that He would rise from the grave? I believe he was a little astonished that they had even come to finish the burial when they should be coming to take Him home.

The vast majority of us would like to think that if we had been there when all this stuff took place that we would do things a little different. We wouldn't have left Him at the cross like some of the disciples did, we would have been waiting right at the tomb anticipating His resurrection that glorious morning.  But sometimes I think that is just a bunch of wishful thinking on our part. Sure we would like to think that we would make a difference but the truth is that for the most part we would be coming to the grave yard to look for one that was dead, not one that had risen as He promised.

In a way we see people still looking for life among the dead so to speak. All around us we find people that are trying to fill their lives with empty pleasures, things that are like the grass of the field soon to wither and blow away. “If only I could have a nicer car, a bigger home, a better job, a bigger church.” The list goes on and on. But the truth is that you will never find true happiness until you find the resurrected Christ. Until you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior you are just going through life searching a grave yard for something to give you a better life. But the fact still remains that you can look in all the worldly bone yards that the devil offers you and find exactly what the women found that day in Jerusalem, NOTHING!!! But when you see Christ as the giver of life and the giver of life in abundant ways you will have found everything that you need to make your life complete.
