Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; March 5, 2006

Just the other day I heard a very interesting bit of information.  There was a man on the radio that said the worth of a piece of paper money was just 4 cents.  That right, 4 cents - no matter the denomination that is on the bill itself, it only cost 4 cents to make.  What gives the money its value is you and I.  A 100 dollar bill is worth 100 dollars because we think it is, they tell us it is and we believe them.  Sort of makes you think doesn’t it.

As I began to think about my piece of newfound wisdom, God began to allow me to see that people can be viewed in the same way as our money.  Many people are only worth what we make them to be.  If we act as if they are worthless, they will act as if they are worthless - if we treat them as if they have no hope they will begin to live as if they have no hope.  If we act as if they have no way to change their lives, they will begin to think that they are destined to fail.

The challenge for the Church of today is to give hope to the lost world around us.  We need to start looking at people the way that God looks at them, as a creation of God that has a soul that needs a savior.  Until we view the sinner as a person that is an act of God’s grace ready to happen then we are selling them short.  How do we expect the lost to want our savior if we don’t portray to them that Jesus is their answer and that they are important to God?

But we also need to see the worth in each other.  There are no big I’s and little u’s in the Kingdom of God.  We all have our place within the body and it is important that we each find that place.  We are all precious in the eyes of God and He has a plan for each of our lives.  So let us place God’s value on things and not man’s - we will have a bigger impact on the world around us if we do.
