Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; January 29, 2006

This past Thursday night Extreme Team, a ball handling team in which several children from our congregation are involved in, was invited to Rupp Arena to perform. They had worked hard for this event and were very excited to get the opportunity to step on the same court as some of their heroes have played. But to our surprise our little team was not given enough time to perform and was asked to leave the court before their performance was finished. To say the least the boys were very disappointed and upset. Some showed anger, some were confused, and some cried. It was very difficult to try and explain to this wonderful bunch of kids the reason they were not allowed to perform. It was a very big disappointment in the young lives of these kids. It surely isn’t their last but probably at this point in their lives it is their biggest.

As I reflected on this sour event that took place I was reminded that it wasn’t the end of the world. I was reminded that there might very well be other opportunities for these children. I was reminded that we just ought to be thankful that we were even invited to come. But I was also reminded about how disappointed that many will be when the world does come to a screeching halt. Will they get what they expect, will they be surprised by the results of their righteous judgment, will they be able to fulfill their desire to make heaven their home or will their worst nightmare become a reality?

You know with a little time and a gift or two the disappointment that these kids experienced this past week will become a vague memory. But if you or I miss Heaven as our home and lift our eyes in Hell being tormented by the flames, that will be a disappointment that will never pass from our minds, it will be an eternal experience. God help us all.
