Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; January 22, 2006

What do you believe in? What basic thoughts and views form your life and how you make your decisions? What makes you tick?

I am sure that answers to these questions may be different depending on whom you ask, depending on their background and their present circumstances. But there is one constant that we can be sure of and that is “lack of self-confidence will cause us all harm”.  I read a statement this week by Brian Tracy that said,

“The worst beliefs you can have are "Self limiting beliefs." These exist whenever you believe yourself to be limited in some way. For example, you may think yourself to be less talented or capable than others. You may think that others are superior to you in some way. You may have fallen into the common trap of selling yourself short and settling for far less than you are truly capable of.

These self-limiting beliefs act like brakes on your potential. They hold you back. They generate the two greatest enemies of personal success - doubt and fear. They paralyze you and cause you to hesitate to take the intelligent risks that are necessary for you to fulfill your true potential.

If I am not careful I can become my own worst enemy. As Mr. Tracy said, I can throw the brakes to my spiritual potential by simply not having any confidence that within me is a God given gift, something that by Gods design and help I can accomplish for the kingdom.

That may be why we are against change so much, because we are not confident enough to move out of our normal box and investigate the possibilities that the future holds.

As a Christian to have a low self-esteem equals a lack of confidence in God and His power and willingness to use you. But we need to remember that with God all things are possible. Even using someone like you and me for His glory and His purpose.
