Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; January 1, 2006

Good morning and Happy New Year. It is my prayer that God will truly bless each of you this coming year.

I sat here and wrote this piece just a few minutes after I had arrived home from John D. Morton’s Memorial service at Bowen Church of God. Today I am very proud to be a Christian in Powell County, today I am very proud to have known John D. Morton, and today I have a new hero. I am proud of how the Christian community came together and lifted up our Christian flags and American colors and sang and prayed unto the Lord our God and overcame evil with good. And by the way no one was better represented than Stanton 1st Church of God. I am proud to be your Pastor, thanks for coming and supporting the cause.

As proud as I am there is still a part of me that is still upset over the actions of a few so-called Christians that because of their perverted views have brought much hurt and worry to so many people that didn’t deserve it at all. It just goes to show you that your actions do have an impact on those around you.

Free speech, in one way it is such a great thing and in others it is very troubling. Really and truly I have discovered this week that it seemed like everyone had freedom but the families that were mourning the loss of their fallen family member.  Everyone seemed to get to say their piece but the Morton family just had to roll with the punches so to speak. It doesn’t seem right but that is the way it goes.

As Christians we need to always be sure that we represent our Savior in the best manner possible. He is not a hater of people, but of sin. He does not want people destroyed or killed but saved. He actually doesn’t want Christians to have freedom of speech; He wants us to be under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I am not free to act or speak as I wish but I am enslaved to Christ and must act and speak, as He would want me to. And to that I say “Praise God”.

In my prayers - Pastor Anthony
