Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; December 4, 2005

This past Friday night Holly and I were present at a Holiday Dinner that was put on by Holly’s employer. As we sat there and waited a very long time to be able to eat, I was able to take a little personal evaluation about the many different backgrounds that were present that night. There were Mormons, 7th Day Adventist, Baptist, Church of God, Christians and sinners. There were doctors, nurses, secretaries, office managers, husbands and wives. As I began to recognize all of the different types of people that were there, I also began to see that it took them all to be successful. Each person had something that they brought to the table; they each had something that they did that made that team a working unit and a successful business.

In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul begins to describe the Church as a human body. He tells us that just as it does in our natural bodies, the Church is made up of a great many parts and each part plays a very important role. This is a fact that needs to be stressed more often in our Churches. Sometimes we forget in the Church that unity is not everyone looking the same, talking the same, coming from the same walk of life. But unity is when we all have the same agenda. Even though there were many different types of people there that night, they all had the same goal and that was to be the top medical provider in Clark County, KY.  If you take a few minutes to look around our sanctuary this morning you will be able to see that there is a great variety of people that are represented here. But we all have our part to play; we should all have the same agenda. No matter where you come from or what is your background your eternal focus should be to glorify God and lift up the name of Jesus Christ so that men and women can be drawn to His mighty Grace. Any other agenda or purpose is to tamper with the proper functioning of the body.

There is not a doubt in my mind that we here at Stanton 1st Church of God have as much potential as any other Church in our community. But it is very important that we each find our place in the body of Christ, accept that position and be the best body part that we can be.
