Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; October 23, 2005

This past week sure has been beautiful, hasn’t it? God has truly been good to us here at Stanton, Ky. By the time you read this I guess we will know what kind of effects Wilma has had on the East coast. It seems to me that we have had a great deal more storms this year than we have had in years past.  You think God is trying to wake a few people up or what?

This past week I received an e-mail like many of you did that was titled, “quote of the week”. It was a statement made by “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno and it said, “With hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, and severe T-storms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the big quake in  Pakistan”, the quote of the month is from...Jay Leno:  "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

There is not a one of us that would not “Amen” to that statement. Not a one that would not think that it was purely insane to remove the name of the creator of Heaven and earth from this countries “Pledge of Allegiance”. We fuss up a storm about the absence of prayer and Bible study in school. We gripe and complain about the immorality of our teachers, political leaders and such like. We whine and cry about the filth that we watch on television. We get on our soapboxes and preach about how the Ten Commandments should be on our Courthouse walls. But let us be honest, God was taken out of our homes a long time ago. When we began to get so busy that we stopped praying as a family, when we ran out of time to do a nightly or morning devotion together with our spouse, when we started to rather be entertained by the world and its movies and concerts than we would spend that time in God’s word and worship services we removed God out of our homes and families, it just makes sense to me that the rest of the world would soon follow.

I don’t know if they will ever take “God” out of our pledge or not. But even if they do they can’t take Him out of your heart and your home. You are the only ones that can do that. There is no one else to blame. The pledge can’t keep our kids off drugs, the pledge can’t stop the useless mass murder of innocent babies, the pledge can’t lower the rate of teenage pregnancy, but having God put back in our families and in our homes sure can.

I have little patience for the crying and whining of the uncommitted. We have too many people that don’t care enough about God and having a Godly community to come to Church more than Sunday mornings. But you sure can find the time to voice your opinion about the depravity of the world we live in. If we will get right with God, God will take care of all the rest.
