Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; September 11, 2005

By the time that we get to the 11th chapter of Genesis it seems as if all is going pretty good. People have seemed to settle most of their differences and are getting along rather well, maybe a little too well. They decide that they are going to build a tower of brick that reached into the heavens that they might be able to make a name for their selves over the entire world. That is where they made their mistake. They left God out and because of that God confused their language to where they could not complete their effort.

A lot of good causes exist to which people can give their time and effort. But sometimes we get the idea that we can build a better world and leave God out of the work. That is what happened in Babel. There was nothing wrong with working together to build a wonderful city with a beautiful brick tower. But they were building it as a monument to their independence. Their ambition made them think that they could function completely without God’s approval.

I believe that we may have many in our world today that their lives are like the tower of Babel. They work each day trying to make a name for their selves and never give the glory to God. It is important that we recognize God’s rightful place in our lives. The people of Genesis 11 didn’t and their dreams were left unfinished and their ambitions were unfulfilled.

We as a Church cannot afford to get into the Babel type mentality, the way of thinking that we can do things on our own. We need to put our total faith and trust in God. We need to remember “We can do all things through Christ that strengthens us”. And outside of Christ we can accomplish nothing.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
