Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; July 31, 2005

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. "If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'" Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, "Ryan, you be Jesus!"

It seems to me that there are many people in this world that are just like this young boy, it is easier for those around us to act like Christ than it is for us to be Christ like. You know it is easier for me to be Christ like when everything is going my way. But when things get a little shaky around me it becomes more and more difficult for me and seemingly much easier for everyone else to fall in to line.

But I fully realize that if we all were just to live as close to God as we could we would not have to worry about having our way or not. Being the father of two small boys I see all too often the carnal nature of man coming out when one has something or goes somewhere that he wants to have or wants to be. But we as Saints of God need to remember, “When we were children we acted like a child, but when we matured and became grown we put off those childish things.”  That means when we were young Christians we may have gotten by with some selfish act, but as you grow in grace God is expecting you to put off those things and act like Christ.

If we as people were to grow up in Christ, then we would be able to see our Church grow as well. God will give us what He can trust us with, Amen.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
