Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; July 17, 2005

Well, I guess I can say now it is officially over. Vacation Bible School 2005 has really come to an end.  As I write this it is about 5 minutes after Midnight on Friday and Holly and I are just getting home and I am taking a few minutes to reflect on the week that we just had. One of the first things that you learn as a Pastor is that you can’t always judge an event in the immediate future, it can take weeks, months even a year or so to bare much fruit. That is especially so when it comes to Vacation Bible School and other youth or children related events. I guess that is why many people think that it is a waste of time and money. No matter where you go there is always a discussion about budget, workload, behavior issues, lack of helpers or whatever may be the case. But whatever is the complaint, I am always there to reiterate my thoughts that Vacation Bible School is worth every dime, hour and drop of sweat that you put into it. I truly believe that Vacation Bible School changes lives and this year is no exception.

We had people work and attend our VBS this year that had never attended or worked in one before. They told me personally how blessed they were and what all they gained from it. We had two children that had to be taken to a lady’s house that attends our church to be cleaned up and a change of clothes found for them before they were able to come. They will never forget that act of love and kindness from that church family for the rest of their lives. And who could forget little Ricky.  Monday night Ricky had to be sent home early for behavior issues.   But Thursday night Ricky was on stage helping sing the songs and doing hand motions. Brother Lanny said it best when he said that the whole week was worth seeing the change in that one child.

Call me crazy, call me sentimental or whatever else you can think of but I am a little sad that it is over.   I’m going to miss the kids, the fun, the fellowship with one another.  I believe I have gotten closer to some of you because of this past week. But most of all I am going to miss getting that great privilege and opportunity to tell the children about the Love of God.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
