Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; June 26, 2005

The pencil maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. There are 5 things that you need to know, he told the pencil, before I send you into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil that you can be.

1.) You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand. 2.) You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you will need it to become a better pencil. 3.) You will be able to correct any mistakes that you might make. 4.) The most important part of you will always be what’s inside. 5.) On every surface that you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.

First, I want to thank Sister Madeline for this little story. When I read it, it began to really show me how God desires to lead and guide us in life if we would just listen to Him carefully. As long as I allow my little hand to rest in God’s big hand, everything will be all right. God only chastises or disciplines those that He loves and all the chastisement I receive is for my own good and God’s glory. God declares that there is nothing that cannot be forgiven if I will claim the blood of Jesus, our eternal eraser. It is not what people always see or think about me that matters, it is what God sees in my heart that matters. God doesn’t look on the outward appearance of man but He surveys the heart. And last but not least, no matter what is going on in my life, I am still expected by God to be the very best Christian I can be. Even when it seems like I can’t live holy, I must do my best. Even when it would be easier to lower my moral standard, I must make the Godly choice. Even when others around me don’t, I must strive to be like Christ in all that I do. When no one would blame me for acting a certain way, I must always be a positive influence for Christ Jesus.

I don’t know about you but I want to be all I can be for Christ everyday that I live and these 5 simple guidelines can be a big help.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
