Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; May 15, 2005

This past week I received a call on my cell phone and on the other end was a very hysterical grandmother trying to tell me to rush to the Powell County Clinic as fast as I could because Caeden was hurt. As I tried to get more information all I really could hear was tears, terror and the occasional “his little head is bleeding”. I arrived at the clinic before the rest, a little leery about what I might come in contact with when the other parties arrived. AS dad pulled up in the parking lot and everyone started to pile out the emotions to say the least was running wild. Of course Caeden was crying, he was the one bleeding, Evan was beside himself because he was the one driving the bicycle that hit Caeden to start the bleeding, and the grandmothers, well they were just being loving grandmothers. Naturally my first instincts was to go to Caeden but very quickly Mom told me that I needed to see Evan for he was very upset, he was blaming himself. As we began to console my highly emotional 6 year old the grandmothers started blaming themselves. They told Evan that it was not his fault but theirs for not watching Caeden closer. As the blame game continued, no one ever blamed Caeden but he was the one who actually stepped out in front of the bike in the first place. But everyone was willing to take the blame upon themselves. I even have to admit that I was secretly blaming myself, saying if I had not been away that it might not have happened.

You know if we were more like that today in the Church, I think that we would see less people fall back into sin once that they have given their heart to the Lord. I know we can’t be personally responsible for a persons actions, but we can be more concerned about the care and watchful eye that we offer each other. The fact of the matter is the Bible charges us to try and help convert ones that have erred from the truth, James 5:19-20. But many times we ask if we are our brother’s keeper and act like it is none of our business and go about our way.

Now no one is to blame for Cady running in front of Evan’s speeding bicycle, no one could have prevented that. But maybe as a Church if we took a little more responsibility for the souls of those around us we could prevent them from falling into the snare pits of Satan.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
