Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; Easter Sunday - March 27, 2005

We read in the Bible a story of a little shepherd named David that came to the battlegrounds one day to deliver a package to his brothers that their father had sent. But to the amazement of little David their was a giant among the enemies of God named Goliath that was reeking havoc and sending shock waves of fear through the entire camp of Israel. But David went to battle this giant with the hand of God upon him and killed the beast of a man with one simple shot of a rock from his sling. But the story continues on to tell us that David took the sword that the giant was wearing and cut off the giants head to seal the deal and make sure that Goliath never bothered Gods people again. Well, if you think of it that is exactly what we are celebrating today, the very fact that Christ Jesus step on to the battle field of this world took the devils very own weapon, death, and defeated him with it. Making it possible that Gods people could have victory over their enemies. Heb 2:14-15 14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-- that is, the devil-- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (NIV)

You know it would be a wonderful thought if Jesus only secured for us victory over death at Calvary. If all that Calvary stood for was that we could have victory over death for eternity that would be a great thing to celebrate. But the truth is, the empty tomb says that we can have victory over the death or effects of sin that we face right here and right now. We don’t have to live in bondage to the things of this world and all the devil has to offer us because Jesus paid the price so that we could be free.

I hope this morning that you celebrate this most wonderful event in history by accepting the victory that Christ has made available to each and everyone of us through His so great salvation.

In my prayers,

Bro. Anthony
