Notes From Pastor Anthony’s Desk; February 20, 2005

Good morning, I hope that all is doing well and are as glad to be in Gods house as I am to have you here.

This past week I was offered an invitation from 3 other men in our church to attend a Tractor and Farm machinery exhibit in Louisville at Freedom Hall. Not having much knowledge of tractors or farm machinery I gladly accepted the invitation and saw it as a time of fellowship and learning. Upon entering the arena my novice eyes were amazed at the huge size of some of these pieces of machinery. And as I was trying to imagine what size of field it would take to even turn a corner with some of these things my eyes began to fix on something like I had never seen before. It was the most brilliant yellow and the biggest thing I had ever seen on wheels. It was a brand spanking new, 2005 New Holland Combine. Bro. David Creech and I began to investigate this massive rig and really began to appreciate her structure. I even climbed upon her and began to look around the whole arena. Bro. David said I was too scared to go all the way up and he very well may have had something there, she was up there now. We began to search for her engine and don’t really know if we found it or not. AS I was daydreaming about what it would be like to drive such a piece of equipment, Bro. David Creech made an observation that allowed God to begin to speak to me in a special way. The statement was something like, “Just a common farmer couldn’t even service that thing let alone drive it.” Wow, that really brought things into prospective for me. Here I was thinking about what it would be like to operate this wonderful piece of farm machinery and I have not even drove a tractor a handful of times. How did I think that I could handle something of that quality and size? It had more buttons than the Space Shuttle.

And that is when God spoke to me. He used this moment to remind me that life was to big for me to handle on my own. There was no way that I could manage it without Him. All of my best efforts and all of my good deeds would always fall short but through and by Him I would be able to make it through. Sometimes the mere massiveness of our life causes us to forget that we serve a God that is bigger than anything that we may ever face. He has never and will never put you at the foot of a mountain that you can’t climb. All we have to do is put our little hands in His big hand and follow on.

In my prayers,

Pastor Anthony
